BCC's Extended Forecast: A Ministry Brainstorm on Monday

"I NEED your input, insights and ideas." There, I said it. I (we) really do need them. Why? This ministry expansion for Adults 55+ has two very straight-forward and measurable goals: (1) engage our adults 55+ in more significant ministry opportunities, (both within and outside our walls) and (2) create a ministry environment where they can invite and influence their unsaved friends and neighbors in this age group. To make these two things happen, and I believe God really wants us to make these happen, we need people who are willing to simply share their thoughts and experiences. To help make that happen as quickly and effectively as possible, we've scheduled a Boomers and Beyond Ministry Expansion Brainstorming Meeting on Monday, September 28th, 7:00pm-8:15pm here at the church.

Please plan on participating and just as importantly, please also personally invite a few friends in this age group who attend BCC to be part of the process. We will be looking for ideas, big or small, that we can implement immediately, as well as explore a bit of what we would like to see this area of ministry look like 6 months/a year/3 years from now.

One final comment, and this is very important. All I want from people at this meeting is their thoughts and ideas, that’s it, because that’s what’s most needed and most important at this point. No one will be asked to volunteer or commit to anything other than praying for this ministry going forward. I promise!

So, mark your calendars and spread the word. The more ideas the better, and everyone's matter, including yours.

Thanks! Enjoy the day!

Steve

You've Got to Have a Plan... and We Do!

'Time to Remodel Ministry for the B&B Generation

Welcome to the building update site for Beaverton Christian Church's Boomers and Beyond. We are building on to our current ministry for senior adults, starting with expanding on just who falls into that "senior" category. Many people currently in their 60's and even in their 70's no longer fit the traditional understanding of what a "senior adult" is, and that's okay. Effective ministry should never stereotype anyone, whether that person be a teenager or an older adult. That is why one of the first changes we've made is to our ministry designation, now described as a "ministry to adults age 55+."

Our overall plan and approach to ministry is to inspect and firm up our existing fellowship programs for our seniors, while also looking for new ways to reach and engage those "seniors who aren't quite ready to be seniors," those people age 55 and up, retired or planning for it, who want to be as active in ministry as they are in life. Think of it as an "Extreme Ministry Makeover," of sorts, where the people benefiting from the ministry are also the ones who build it to reach their generation, involve their generation and impact all following generations, with God getting all the credit.

Sounds like a great plan to me.
